Two Week Camp
Our next camp, which starts this Monday, is going to be a half camp. That means it's half price ($99) and half the time (2 weeks) of a typical camp.
It's going to be twice the intensity though. If I have just 2 weeks to kick your tail, I'm going to make it count. And it. is. time. Admit it. You want me to work you out in a way that will change how you feel. You will hurt, but you will love me too. The costs--your money, your time, your energy, your sleep--ARE worth it.
Because we are made for better. And I am the person who will love you through it. Even if you're cursing me under your breath.

Great article I just found!
8 Reasons Why You Keep Falling Off the Diet Wagon
By: Tom Venuto
Clearly, we have an obesity problem in America and many other countries across our planet. Yet, I propose that we do not have a weight loss problem today. In case you’re confused at this apparent contradiction, consider these statistics:
According to a study from Oxford University published in the International Journal of Obesity, within 3 to 5 years, about 80 percent of all ‘weight losers’ have regained the lost weight, and often gained back a little extra.
According to research by the National Weight Control Registry, that relapse rate may be as high as 95 percent.
For comparison, relapse rates for drug, alcohol and tobacco dependency have been reported in the range of 50-90%.
This means that lots and lots of people have “successfully” lost weight. But not many have kept it off. Therefore, we don’t have a weight loss problem, we have a weight-relapse problem; we have a “not sticking with it” problem. Wouldn’t you agree?
In fact, the fall and subsequent weight-regain usually doesn’t take years. Many people have abandoned their new year’s resolutions within weeks. By the time the Super Bowl party rolls around, their diet is history!
If this is true, then shouldn’t we put more of our attention onto figuring out why you haven’t been sticking with your program, and what you should do about it?
I put together this new list (below) of the top 8 reasons why you fall off the wagon.
Rather than worrying about the minutiae of your diet plan, like whether you should be on low carb or high carb, Mediterranean or Okinawan, vegetarian or meat eater, I propose that if you simply focus on these 8 issues, you’ll start getting more lasting results.
How? By being able to stick with whichever plan you decided was best for you! After all, even if you have the best nutrition program in the world – on paper – it doesn’t do you much good if you can’t stick with it in practice!
THE 8 REASONS
1. No focus: you didn’t set goals, you didn’t put your goals in writing, and/or you didn’t stay focused on your goals daily (by reading them, affirming them, looking at a vision board, etc.)
2. No priorities: you may have set a goal, but you didn’t put it on or near the top of your priorities list. For example, your goal is six pack abs, but drinking beer and eating fast food on the weekend is higher on your priorities list than having a flat stomach.
3. No support system: you tried to go at it alone; no buddy system, training partners, family, spouse, friends, mentors or coaches to turn to for information and emotional support when the going got tough.
4. No Accountability: you didn’t keep score for your own accountability – with a progress chart, weight record, measurements, food journal, training journal, and you didn’t set up external accountability (ie, report to someone else or show your results to someone else)
5. No patience: you were only thinking short term and had unrealistic expectations. You expected 10 pounds a week or 5 pounds a week or 3 pounds a week, so the first week you lost “only” 1 or 2 pounds or hit a plateau, you gave up.
6. No planning: you winged it. You walked into the gym without having a workout in hand, on paper, you didn’t plan your workouts into your weekly schedule; you didn’t have a menu on paper, you didn’t make time (so instead you made excuses, like “I’m too busy”)
7. No balance: your diet or training program was too extreme. You went the all or nothing, “I want it now” route instead of the moderate, slow-and-steady wins the race route.
8. No personalization: your nutrition or training program was the wrong one for you. It might have worked for someone else, but it didn’t suit your schedule, personality, lifestyle, disposition or body type.
So there you have it – 8 reasons why most people fall off the wagon! Have you been making these mistakes? If so, the solutions are clear and simple: focus, prioritize, get support, be accountable, be patient, plan, balance and personalize.

Running Early
In case you're interested--and completely nuts, like me--I'll be talking a jog for about 20 min. before camp starts for a while. It's not a part of camp, but if you just like to run and want to get it in before we workout, feel free to join me.
So I'll start around 5:05. But if it's too cold or I just don't feel like it on a particular morning, you can't hold it against me! I'll still definitely be there to start camp at 5:30.

Ready for 2011?
Isn't it time to get serious about your health? Isn't it time to be consistent with exercise and a smart diet? St. Louis Adventure Bootcamp is the BEST way to get started with good habits that lead to a healthier you!
It's so hard to not be attracted to gimmicks that offer quick results and don't require much effort. Who doesn't want to take an easier road? But don't be fooled that you need more than diet and exercise to tone up, lose weight, and feel better in all areas of your life. It will require effort, but we all know the hard work is worth it!
Our campers are ready to be serious about their health. Now, they come to camp at various starting fitness levels, but the workouts are made to meet you wherever you are. Three days a week is also a great if you're just starting back (and who isn't after the holidays?) or looking for more of a push in your already consistent exercise routine. A consistent, healthy lifestyle is the goal here--not a short-term quick fix--and this requires long-term vision of how healthy habits now will make a difference in your lifestyle 2, 5, 10 years from now.
St. Louis Adventure Bootcamp is committed to helping you reach your fitness and health goals. As a result of this long-term vision of health, new in 2011, sign up for 3 consecutive camps and save 25% off all three camps. Go ahead and commit to the accountability and special attention you need and deserve! St. Louis Adventure Bootcamp is ready to meet you where you are and take you further down the road to a healthy lifestyle.

Been Too Long
Wow, I'm a lame blogger for the bootcamp! I guess we have been having too much fun for me to stop and write about it. The weather is beginning to cool off pretty well, which means we'll be using our indoor option off and on till the real cold comes. And daylight savings comes around this weekend, so we'll have some sunlight again starting next week.
Is it good to point out that we workout in the early, dark, cold morning? I'm not sure, but it's the truth. And then we're done for the whole day before most people even get out of bed! We've burned our 600 calories already, and we're energized for the day ahead! There comes a point where it's simply worth the effort to exercise consistently, and so often when we put it off it just doesn't get done. At least that's true in my life. So early, dark, cold mornings it is--and gladly when I consider the benefits.
It's also holiday season, known to me as the season of eating. Those of us who have been doing bootcamp for several months are ready! We have lost our weight before the eating commences, and we're sticking with the bootcamp so that we can maintain but never gain! Maybe I'll even lose some more. And I can confidently wear my best skinny dress this Christmas--woohoo!
It's not too late to join us in 2010. You can have all these benefits too. Trust me--when the new year comes around you'll be so glad your resolution can be to continue your healthy habits vs. starting them up. And won't you feel good about seeing all your friends and family over the holidays? When they tell you how fabulous you look, you can tell them it's all thanks to St. Louis Adventure Bootcamp! Come join the adventure! We'll get you there too!

Break time
Let me encourage you that even though we are taking 2 weeks off between camps this time, this is no time for slacking in our exercise and eating habits!
I confess that today I have not done well, but I am reaping the fruit from the error of my ways. I am testy and irritable with the kids, and I find myself standing at the open door of the fridge too often. Yesterday I couldn't hold my leg still during dinner. It kept involuntarily bouncing up and down--it missed being worked out. When I exercise regularly and eat healthy foods, I feel better across the board. In all areas of my life.
So I'm jumping back on the wagon tomorrow and hope to start the day with a good, long walk followed by a yummy, healthy breakfast. Won't you join me? We'll feel better for it!

Ready to fit into your skinny jeans??
One more week of Camp 4, then a well-deserved 2 week break! We usually break for only 1 week, but we won't start back this time until August 23.
I can tell it's not quite as light in the mornings as it was a month ago, which means we get to see some amazing sunrises during our workouts.
The next few Camps will be all about fitting back into our skinny jeans. You know we all have them in our drawer/closet, trusting that one day we'll proudly wear them again. Well, this is the year! It can be done, and bootcamp is the way to do it!
Register now, as there are only a limited number of spots available per camp. http://www.stlouisadventurebootcamp.com/

Great start!
Well, it's been a while since I've blogged about camp. It has been a whirlwind the last few months, but things are going great! We have met some really fun girls who are committed to improving their health by working hard at exercise.
Workouts are every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at Salem in Ladue UMC at the corner of Lindbergh Blvd and Hwy 40/I-64. It's the perfect location being right in the middle of St Louis suburbs--very easy to get to and a quick drive home. The 5:30am-6:30am workout hour make it perfect for all women from SAHM's to career women to get a great workout then get home before the day really starts. Also, since it is only women, it's a safe place to give it your all without any concern for others watching you sweat. :)
This is our first summer to do ABC, and I'll have to say it has been an adventure. We have been blessed with dry weather each morning, and there have been only a handful of days where we were hot to start. Most mornings there is a breeze to help cool us off. However, even on the most humid days, it is MUCH COOLER in this early hour than any other time. Think about it--if you wait to exercise outside until after work, the city heat will bake you. City heat? Yes, the heat radiating off the brick buildings and pavements from being in the sun all day. So early morning is definitely the time to be outside in the summer!
One deliberate change we've made recently is to limit our class size to 12 women. Some bootcamps get huge--up to 40 or 50 people. While I am certainly capable of handling a class that large, I am more committed to giving each Camper the attention and direction she deserves.
Right now we're in Week 2 of Camp 4. Hard to believe! Usually there is only one week off between the 4 week camps. However, in August we will break for 2 weeks. We come back in full swing with Skinny Jean Camp starting August 23. Bring me your skinny jeans--you know, the ones you've kept because you'll fit back into them one of these days. We'll get ready for the fall season by getting into your favorite pair of jeans! Won't that feel good!?
